Here are some of the most frequently asked questions we hear from our customers and potential customers.
What type of services do you provide?
Bayside Pavers provides the design and installation of driveway pavers, patio pavers, steps and walkways, pool deck pavers, retaining walls and artificial grass. We carry and sell products from some of the top manufacturers in the industry.
Can I have interlock concrete pavers installed on my driveway?
Yes of course! Interlocking concrete driveway pavers offer four times the load-bearing capacity of more traditional materials like concrete and asphalt. Our standard 2 3/8” thick (60mm) driveway pavers are perfect for light vehicles like cars, pickup trucks, and SUVs.
If I need to make underground repairs, can concrete pavers be removed and replaced?
Yes, absolutely! It's actually one of the top benefits of using concrete pavers. Unlike poured concrete or asphalt which needs to be jackhammered to access underground, concrete pavers can be easily removed and replaced without affecting the look or functionality of your paved surface.
Aren't concrete pavers slippery when they get wet?
No, not at all! Many concrete pavers have a textured surface which provides traction and stability when used for walkways, driveways and pool decks, even when wet! In fact, concrete pavers are highly recommended for precisely because they are not slippery when wet.
What makes interlocking concrete pavers the best choice for my project?
When properly installed, concrete pavers durable, beautiful and flexible. Because there are joints between each paver, your walkway, driveway, or pool deck will move instead of cracking like a poured concrete slab. Furthermore, concrete pavers can be removed easily to access underground pipes, utility lines, or to repair or replace damaged pavers. Unlike asphalt, concrete pavers require little maintenance. They do not need regular sealing or replacement.
Do you recommend concrete paving stones for use on a pool deck?
Yes, most definitely! Not only will concrete pavers visually enhance your pool area, but they also provide a safe non-slip surface, even when wet. We recommend using Polymeric sand between the joints rather than traditional jointing sand. This will prevent the sand from ending up in the pool or other areas.
How would you compare concrete pavers to clay pavers?
Clay pavers don't offer the selection that concrete pavers can provide. Clay pavers tend to come in shades of red and reddish brown and are limited in the shapes the offer. Because clay pavers need a concrete base and their dimensions tend to be inconsistent, correctly installing them can take longer, and they tend to cost more than interlocking concrete pavers. Clay pavers also tend to chip along the edges during installation. Concrete pavers are available in a wide variety of colors, shapes, sizes, and textures. The pavers we carry are made to exacting industry standards and are designed to resist cracking and the damage that can be caused by freeze/thaw conditions, and salt.
If I don't use polymeric sand in my installation, how can I get rid of weeds?
Just apply a weed killer as directed. Concrete pavers resist staining so using a liquid weed killer is no problem.
Are you a licensed Contractor?
Yes. We have a General Building, and Concreted Related license. CA 933876
Do I need to seal my concrete pavers periodically?
The short answer is no, however, sealing them can bring out the color and help to prevent staining. Contact us for recommendations before you attempt to seal your pavers on your own.
How soon can I use my concrete paver patio or driveway after installation?
Unlike poured concrete or asphalt, which can take days or even weeks to cure properly, your concrete paver patio or driveway can be used the minute we finish your project. You can be entertaining guests as our truck is leaving your driveway!
Are concrete pavers better than other materials for my deck?
Yes! Concrete pavers are durable, flexible and beautiful. When properly installed they can last for decades, much, much longer than any other deck material!
How do concrete pavers compare to stamped or patterned concrete?
Concrete pavers are stronger than plain or stamped concrete. Stamped or patterned concrete is simple slabs of embossed concrete and has the same drawbacks as plain concrete. Repairing slabs or accessing underground pipes or utilities can be costly and time-consuming. Repairs can also result in an unattractive patch leaving your slab looking old and worn.
I just got pavers and it looks like there is a film on top. How do I remove it?
This is called efflorescence, and it is a natural occurrence that happens when moisture in the air combines with natural salts on the surface of the pavers. It's is harmless, and our advice is to let it naturally dissipate over time. If you can't wait and want to remove the film, you can dry brush your pavers and then rinse them with the hose. There are also premixed chemical removers available. Apply according to directions and then flush with clean water.
What can be done if my pavers become stained or somehow damaged?
Many different things can cause staining like grease from the grill, spilled wine, or fluids dripping from your car onto the driveway. Often they can be easily removed using everyday household cleaning products. More difficult stains can require industrial chemicals to remove. These chemicals can be dangerous so you'll need to take care when using them. If stains are severe, you may want to contact a professional before proceeding. If staining is very bad, one of the benefits of concrete pavers is that it's easy to remove and replace damaged pavers. Just remove the damaged tile and replace it with a new one and you're patio will look good as new!
What can I do to prevent weeds from sprouting up within the joints?
Using polymeric joint sand as opposed to standard joint sand can prevent weeds from growing through your paver joints. Unlike traditional joining sand, polymeric sand is effective at resisting erosion caused by wind, frost, rain, and suction. It is also effective at preventing weed growth and insects.
